A whatsApp text pops
Wrinkled tired eyes opened with surprise
Trying third time on the screen lock
With fingers pressured too much to unlock
Finally scrolled the notification bar down.

An old friend.
Talked on the phone years back
"how are you", she read
Relieved that someone still has her in their mind
She did nothing but smile
Went back to bed and closed her eyes.

An hour since
Her mind was still repeating the words she read
For her life had few conversations left
Her eyes carried a sorrowful melody
Lips talked dead words
Less and heavy

This text felt like an oasis,
To her desert like heart
That has been longing
For a conversation deep
For someone asking
How she have been

Alas! The oasis turned to a mirage in a second
For replying to that was not in her hand
Without starting, the conversation ended.
She learnt to read, typing was to be learnt next.
Her only son had to study away
Promised her to teach that some other day.

She was afraid to try
For once she had put her phone on flight
Had to run to the shopkeeper to make it right
She chose to wait instead.
"I will reply when he comes back" Affirming herself,
No text ever came, she pretends
