Your Name Like A Prayer!
Your Name Like A Prayer!
-Farnaaz Islam
Today is Uruka, tomorrow is Bihu,Everyone will welcome the new year;
The weather of spring when people lose themselves,
And this rain,
This heart-touching rain…
New buds, green valleys…
The world’s most beautiful time.
But my life till now
Is far from light and colour…
Around the loom these days,
Is every young lass’s guard.
Today is Uruka, today the final flowers
Will be woven
On their beloved’s zealously woven gamusas…
But what will I do on the loom?
Even if I weave a gamusa, how do I offer him?
He who belongs to another.
Without you, even among friends
Why do I feel lonely?
On Bihu, why do the elders’ blessings and younger ones’ love
Do not suffice and my life seems unfulfilled?
Why do I wait for you,
Like for the rains after Phagun?
Why do I wish you were close to me?
Even after you hurt me deeply,
Why do I love you, and only you?
Although you promised me many a false dream,
Why do I wish that every dream of yours comes true?
In every breath I take,
Why do I murmur
Your name like a prayer?
